Atomosheric Ion

Atmospheric ion is a ion which exist in the atmosphere. We classify atmospheric ions into six group (+large ion, +middle ion, +small ion, -large ion, -middle ion, -small ion).
These ions become charged aerosols by combining aerosols (dust and so on) in the atmosphere and are called large ion. Ions are also charged with electricity by positive or negative, positive ion and aerosol combine to positive charged aerosols, and negative ion and aerosol combine to create negative charged aerosols.
We are trying to make an estimate of earthquake dangers.

Why do we think that the measure of the atmospheric ions is possible to predict the earthquake danger?

The destruction of the base rock occur under the ground, and a quantity of radon which is a kind of the gas is produced, radon and pulverization body unit to positive charged aerosol, after all it is released on the atmosphere before the earthquake happen. We think that the positive large ion increase as many times over ~ many decuple over as the ordinary one (1,000~20,000 piece/cc depends on the scale of the earthquake). We suppose that positive large ions rise sharply before an earthquake and the prediction of the earthquake danger possible to measure by the change of the ions.

Why do we think the ion is related with the earthquake is not a negative one but a positive one?

See the chart below. This show the measurement range of the ion measuring instrument. You find that it measures 0.0001~0.02 micrometer particle radius. Each ions radius are that small ion:0.0001~0.002, middle ion:0.002~0.001, large ion:0.007~0.02.

The large ion which is measured by measuring instrument usually includes mist, cigarettes, and so on. But as already mentioned, a large amount of large ion is produced before an earthquake, and positive large ion increase on the atmosphere. The main factor that caused it is radon(Rn).

Radon is an emission element, it is gas which doesn't unite any element, and has a half-life of 3.82 days.

Radon is contained in rock , released in the atmosphere under the stress , and finally change the 210Pb+. 210Pb and dust combined to a positive charged aerosols(positive large ion) and is measured by measuring instruments. The element is charge with electricity is produced by radon caused a positive large ion related with earthquake.

*the important point is that the half-life of radon is 3.82 days. Such a short period can be observed as the ion ascends much higher than normally before earthquake.
